"Spies in Disguies" might have gotten panned by a number of critics, but it's a family-friendly film that can give parents a wonderful opportunity to talk to children about non-violent solutions to conflict. Oh, and it's a spy caper as funny as heck and full of wacky surprises.

In the vein of "Kindergarten Cop" and "The Pacifier," "Playing with Fire" offers plenty of mayhem when some tough guy smokejumpers deal with hosting three kids at the fire house.

“Arctic Dogs” serves up family-friendly fare, scoring high on the cuteness meter despite its lack of originality. The little ones will love Swifty (voiced by Jeremy Renner). He’s an arctic fox who always dreamed of being top dog for the Arctic Blast Delivery Service (ABDS). When he finally gets a job there, it’s not as glamorous as he’s imagined.

This film retells the amazing story of the 1925 Serum Run, when 20 mushers and their teams cover almost 700 miles of treacherous Alaskan weather and terrain to get the diphtheria antitoxin from Anchorage to Nome by dogsled to prevent an epidemic outbreak. Leonhard Seppala and his dog Togo are the unsung heroes of this incredible story of hope and courage.

Remember the Abominable Snow Monster from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?” Well, the Humble Bumble gets reinvented as an adorable young Yeti in the new film from Dreamworks Animation, “Abominable.”

Faith-based films have been making a comeback since Mel Gibson directed “Passion of the Christ” back in 2004. While some of these films have been over-the-top proselytizing, some have managed to show rather than tell what it means to be disciples of Christ in our day and age through compelling stories. “Overcomer” is an example of the latter.

If you groan at the thought of sitting through the new film, “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” with the little ones in your life who are jumping up and down with excitement as fans of the Nickelodeon show, take a deep breath. It’s actually a pretty fun ride.
